iLumogram Applications

Our hologram printing technology is quite novel, so below are listed some of already known applications for our iLumograms:

  • Museums
  • Cartography
  • Portraiture
  • Architecture
  • Engineering
  • Medicine

Description

Museums

Download our technology presentation for museums.

In all museums there are a lot of artifacts that are too precious to be exposed publicly. The only way to use such kind of artifacts on exhibitions is to use iLumograms. On one iLumogram it is possible either to show what is inside artifact or combine three-dimensional images of different artifacts.

Images for the “Mummy” iLumogram were created in computer using original scans of mummy.

Images for the “Three Wings” iLumogram were obtained by shooting the real sculptures with HoloCam device. Three sets of frames then were combined in such a way that 1/3 of each shooting would be present in the fileset sent to printer. As a result the modern sculpture of Nike is morphing into original statue and then morphing again into another modern version.

With iLumogram it is as well possible to show various historical sites reconstructions – like on the iLumograms below. There is visualized computer reconstruction of an ancient building and Roman stables. While moving from side to side you can see different layers of the ancient building.

Cartography

The iLumogram allows to present cartographic data in a natural way – true relief of earth surface is visible to viewer, together with real buildings and other constructions. It is a perfect tool to present your project or to plan various civil and/or military operation. Here is the video of one of the maps we have printed on our printer. And here is the article describing iLumographic cartography basics.

Advertising case study

Four iLumograms in size of 1m x 1.2m were produced for Puma Canada campaign for their Ferrari branded foot wear presentation to market during the Montreal Grand Prix in June 2005.

Approximately 200 people leaving the store at 954 rue Ste-Catherine Ouest were interviewed and asked to fill out a questionnaire over a period of three days from Friday to Sunday. The results were processed and statistically analyzed using the STAT-XP package.

The principle results of this analysis were as follows: During the latter part of the Montreal Grand Prix F1 week the Puma-Ferrari ilumographic displays situated at 954 Ste-Catherine Ouest were able to capture the attention of visitors to the Foot Locker store despite the fact that the average time that a given individual spent in the store was less than 15 minutes. More precisely, the displays were capable of generating a spontaneous awareness of 37% of one or several elements of the concept advertised. In addition the displays generated a total awareness (including spontaneous and cued) of 41%. To put this in context, comparable figures for standard 2D displays are usually in the range 8-10%.

A similar campaign to the Puma campaign was subsequently carried out in London for Nike through Exhibits International (Amsterdam). Again four large format iLumogram were produced and installed in Niketown on Oxford street in London.

Portraiture

3D portraits are quite known. Famous people like Queen Elizabeth or David Bowie were memorized on our iLumograms. So if you want to have portraits in 3D, motion and colors – ilumography is the only way to do that.

With our HoloCam imaging equipment, 3D portraiture in colour and with movements becomes very easy task. HoloCam portable can be brought to any location where you will perform life shooting. Then send your files to us and we will print you 3D portraits. Below are couple photographs from HoloCam shootings at ISDH 2006 conference in Wales, UK.

If shooting is performed in studio – it is possible to use additional lights and subjects makeup, achieving similar results as in creative photography but in 3D. And like in modern photography or cinematography you do not need to print shot footage yourself – we will do that for you, in 3D and with motion.

Architecture

Animated three dimensional presentations are good tool to show changes in the construction or to present it in a new, unusual way. Below are digital previews of iLumograms designed by Mr. Ikuo Nakamura. iLumogram changes from architectural drawings to complete house and back to drawings, depending on viewing angle. Series of those drawings-to-building iLumograms in size of 30x40cm were printed for one Japanese building company. Such iLumograms can be used as a good marketing tool for real estate agents.

For new Lithuanian Telecom building we have imprinted it virtual model while building was not built yet. This iLumogram was placed at the installation in theirs all building and was present there during a new building construction period. iLumogram (at the left stand’s side) was showing how new building will be composed in the city environment. When viewer was walking and looking at it – the changing 3D view of the building was seen. Impression – like you would be driving the car and were looking through its window. The LCD screen at the right wall showed movie about this new building. Design was done by DDB Lithuanian branch.

Engineering

In modern engineering all design work is mainly done with various computer aided design (CAD) programs. Using those programs is possible to construct very complicated machines and their parts. However, before iLumography, it was not possible to present such design results in a hard copy form. For a very long time three dimensional engineering work results were observed as flat projections on computer monitor, or as three-dimensional shapes on same computer monitor using polarizing or anaglyphic glasses. Recently, the 3D displays made possible to view machinery work in 3D without glasses, but hard copy of such visualization is possible to achieve only with iLumogram. It is good and inexpensive tool in engineering education.

Medicine

iLumograms can be used as medicine teaching tool. At the moment insides of human body are shown in classes mostly by using plastic molds and/or computer presentations. On an iLumogram it is possible to show the same body insides in a more simple and natural way without any sophisticated equipment.

iLumography is the only way to obtain a hard color copy of tomographic or magnetic resonance data. Instead of images of live or virtual scenes, we are submitting to our printer series of tomographic or magnetic resonance images. As a result, all those images are present on final iLumogram and can be viewed under different viewing angles. For better viewability natural colors can be automatically added to each image before printing.
